I wonder how much it is for one night? What's the range on this? How many engines? What's the Maximum Gross Weight? What's the cruise speed? What's the OGE(oge) hover for a standard day? Autorotating Hotel? That sounds fun! Is it really real!? Does anybody have any information on this aircraft?

Go METRO! Go GREEN!

One of our instructor is going to try the Los Angeles Public Transportation Services tomorrow morning to see how good it is! We'll have to see what happens!?

The bus works really good when it comes to coming to El Monte Airport, because the bus stop is right at the entrance for the airport parking lot!

I acctually used it for quite some time because it was so convenient. I lived in Sierra Madre and took the 498 bus that left the supermarket behind the apartment that I was living in and I was able to read a book for a good 20 minutes. Or take a nap for a good 20 minutes. It was much more productive than driving and being able to do nothing for 20 minutes.

The instructor that is going to try the Go Metro tommorow, I think, is coming from the LA Downtown Area. Unexpected ETE and ETA. Good luck!

Guess where I am?

Just driving along the 5 freeway abeam Oceanside VOR. We looked off to the right and saw a HUEY being towed! I got the tail.

Helicopter Tailrotor Preflight Inspection

One of the most important procedure to follow is the preflight inspection prior to flying. The use of a preflight check list that has been approved by aircraft manufactures and FAA and your flight school will give you a systematic sequence of inspecting the aircraft.

We look for a GOOD USE of check list. What is that all about? "Understand the Check List."

It's not just about reading it word for word. Some areas are better to memorize and refer back to it as necessary. Sometimes read a couple of lines ahead and be prepared for the sequence of events that happen much faster than we can read and follow the check list. It's a "Check List." That means that it's only worth it when the pilot knows what he/she is suppose to be doing in the first place, and using it as a reference to MAKE SURE that he/she hasn't left out any of the key points of your operation.

Just using the check list doesn't do any good. You have to have a GOOD USE of check list. Just like any great cooking recipe is worth nothing, unless you know the basics of cooking in the first place, right? The detailed SECRETS of the delicious dish is usually, not on the recipe. Or maybe it is, but doesn't make sense to me...

Are you a Helicopter Pilot and an Airplane Pilot?

http://www.universalairacademy.com/ - Helicopter Flight School: Los Angeles(LA), CA

One of the best ways to keep yourself out of trouble in Aviation as a Pilot is to learn from other pilot's mistakes. Both Helicopter Instructors and Airplane Instructors at the Flight School here in California, El Monte Airport - Universal Air Academy.

Another way is to build up "Situational Awareness" as a pilot. Here are some great resouces from AOPA where you can go through online courses and refresh or learn new about what to be "aware of" when you are flying. Although EVERYTHING is based on an Airplane Pilot perspective it's still a great tool to be a Better and Safe Pilot, because as Helicopter Pilots, we still do share the same sky and rules and regulations to some extent.

The online course description say that the estimated time to complete a course is about 45 to 60 minutes. To be honest, there is not one that I completed with in those time frames. Is it just me? But at the end of it, it's worth spending the time. You can complete the course partially and get back to work. Get back to the course and go back to sleep. Wake up and if you have about 15 to 30 minutes to continue on with the Online Courses, eventually you can complete the courses.

I think instructors can even benifite from these courses so don't worry if you are a private pilot or a student pilot and you are struggling through the course!

Another way to build up "Situational Awareness" is to try out the Online Courses offered by the FAA SAFETY TEAM - FAAST. There's a lot of reading to do and if you want to pass the final quiz, it may be worth taking notes as you go through the course. Most of them are at no cost, some seem to have cost(something to do with Sporty's). I haven't done any of the non-free courses but the rest were quite interesting. The time frame that you need to finish a course seem to be a little more accurate to me. The courses are geared towards various levels of pilots. You can choose the courses that seem to fit your needs. If you find out that it didn't, you can simply quit that course.

It's worth trying if you have never gone through any of the courses. See what you know and don't know. It will make you a better and safer Pilot.

If you are interested in more links that are interesting for pilots, go to Universal Air Academy's website and scroll down to where we have a couple of interesting links. Do you know who you are talking to when you are calling for a weather briefing? Check it out. Do you know if NOTAM(L) still exists? Check it out.
